Isolated Summer Top

Updated: Jul 2, 2020

There probably won't be any festivals or fairs this year, at least any of the large ones that we look forward to. But, that doesn't mean that we won't be able to still make some great memories this summer and look cute while doing it!

I have wanted to make a crocheted festival top for the past two years and I finally did it! Originally, I was planning on just following an already written pattern. Then, as I was searching for something that I felt was really "Me", I ended up just creating a pattern of my own.

So, without further ado:

Isolated Summer Top Pattern

  • Worsted weight (Size 4) yarn in 3 colors.

  • Size H / mm crochet hook

  • Darning Needle

  • Scissors

  • Optional: Cup inserts, needle, and thread

Cups (make 2 in Color A):

Ch 11

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc to last ch, 3 sc in last ch. Turn work to sc back down on the other side of the ch

Row 2: turn, ch 1, sc to end, sc 3 in the middle sc of the 3 sc group from the previous row.

Repeat last row until breast is covered ending with a st count that is a multiple of 6 +1 (e.g. 43 = [6*7] +1).

Picot Cup Edging:

Row 1: turn, ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 1, sc 1* repeat* to end.

Row 2: turn, ch1, 2 sc in first ch 1 space, *skip next sc, sc in next ch 1 space, picot, sc in same ch 1 space, skip next sc, 2 sc in next ch 1 space* repeat until last sc, sl st in last sc. Note: In the ch 1 space at the top of the cup, 5 sc in that space instead of 2 to make a point.

Fasten off

Granny Square (make as many as necessary to fit most of the way around your torso right below your breasts):

Row 1: Make a magic circle, 12 dc in magic circle using color B

Row 2: With color C, sl st into first dc, ch 2 (making the first part of the 3 dc cluster), *3 dc cluster, ch 1, *3 dc cluster in next st, ch 1* repeat * until end. (12 3dc clusters)

Row 3: With color A, sl st into the top of the first cluster, sl st to the ch 1 space. Ch 3, dc 2, ch 2, dc 3, ch 1, *dc 3 in next ch 1 space, ch 1, dc 3 in next ch 1 space, ch 1, dc 3 in next ch 1 space, ch 2, dc 3 in same ch 1 space, ch 1* repeat 3 times, dc 3 in next ch 1 space, ch 1, dc 3 in next ch 1 space, ch 1, sl st into 3rch chain of the first chain in the row.

Fasten off.

Assembling the Top:

Sl st seam the granny squares together in a row.

With Color A, attach yarn at the upper right corner of your granny square row with the right side facing you. Ch1, sc in each st around.

Sl st into top of first sc in the round

Row 1: ch 1, sc in each st across the top of your granny square row. Turn your work

Row 2: ch 4 (this acts as your first dc and ch 1), *skip the next st, dc in next st, ch 1* repeat until last one or two stitches. Skip next st, dc in last one or two stitches depending on how the numbers worked out.

Row 3: Turn, ch 1, sc in each st and ch 1 space across.

Fasten off.

Fold the granny square row in half and place a marker at the halfway point.

Sl st seam the cups on either side of the half way marker.

Making the straps:

Neck Straps (make two):

Attach yarn at the top of your cup and ch 70 (or as many as necessary).

Fasten off.

Back Strap:

Make a chain that is 4 - 5 ft long. Lace it through the back by weaving through each ch space in the granny squares like so:

Weave in ends and steam or wet block.

Optional: Sew in some cup inserts using the whip stitch.
